BYD's Self-Developed Mid-High-Level Smart Driving Solutions Are About to Be Delivered

Starting in 2025, the Chinese new energy vehicle brand BYD will gradually deliver its self-developed mid-high-level smart driving solutions for certain vehicle models, including highway pilot and urban pilot features. A smart driving research and development team of around 1,300 people is now sprinting towards the final stages of delivery.

According to sources, BYD’s most important task at present is to ensure the equality of smart driving technology across its models, while also implementing its self-developed algorithms.

BYD initiated its high-level smart driving self-development project in September 2024. The solutions will be implemented on mid-to-low-priced models that previously had no access to high-level smart driving features. Sources also revealed that BYD is intensively preparing for this, with relevant data feedback loops and after-sales plans already in place.

It has been reported that BYD's Seagull model plans to launch a smart driving version in 2025. Furthermore, BYD plans to offer smart driving versions for all its models by 2025, spanning price ranges from the 60,000 yuan Seagull to the 1-million-yuan Yangwang U8. To achieve this, BYD’s smart driving project team is currently in an expedited development phase.

BYD’s head of smart driving, Yang Dongsheng, revealed in August 2024 that Chairman Wang Chuanfu now places the highest priority on smart driving and has officially made it one of BYD’s core strategies.
